Angela de la Cruz

Inspired in equal parts by conceptual, painterly, and sculptural concerns, Angela de la Cruz utilizes the canvas to subvert traditional notions of painting, and extend the potential of narrative form. Aligning her work within the greater discourse of the history of art, de la Cruz defies the notion of a painting as a unique, singular object by deconstructing and reconstructing paintings into recyclable “Commodity Paintings”. Reinforced with titles such as “Ashamed”, “Off Guard”, or “Stuck”, her works are often physically and psychologically damaged. Her signature form of action painting — resulting in bashed-in and fractured stretchers, and crumpled, torn, or scorched canvases — serves to visualize the dramas their titles invoke, and anthropomorphize human emotions and experience.

Born in 1965 in La Coruna, Spain, Angela de la Cruz received her first university degree in philosophy at the Santiago de Compostela. She moved to London in 1989 and studied at Goldsmiths College and The Slade School of Art where she was awarded a Bachelor in Fine Art and Masters in Sculpture and Critical Theory respectively. She currently lives and works in London and is exhibited broadly throughout the world.

Astrid Kruse Jensen

Astrid Kruse Jensen is one of the most established visual artists in Denmark, well known for her dreamy photographs, where time seems dissolved and undefined. The observer is lead onto a journey of different atmospheres and memories, where the story is open for interpretation.

In series Disappering into the past and Within the Landscape, Astrid Kruse Jensen has utilized an old polaroid camera and expired film to deliberately let go of the technical circumstances. The chemical process in the expired film creates a tinted spectrum of yellow, green and red, and leave a specific shimmer of light in the photographs.

Astrid Kruse Jensen was born 1975 and is based in Copenhagen. She is educated at The Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and exhibited her works all over the world. Her works are represented in several collections such as The National Museum for Photography, Denmark, The George Eastman House, Rochester, USA, Artotheque de Caen, France, Manchester City Gallery, Great Britain and at AROS, Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Denmark. In February 2015 Astrid Kruse Jensen had a solo exhibition at Wetterling Gallery and she has previously exhibited at Sven-Harrys konstmuseum. Have a look at the video interview with Astrid Kruse Jensen by Marc-Christoph Wagner at Brandts Klædefabrik in Odense, Denmark.click here

Bernar Venet

One of the most celebrated conceptual artists working today, Bernar Venet’s extensive oeuvre is a culmination of intellectual rigor, artistic dexterity, and creative exploration. His signature arcs, straight lines, angles and indeterminate lines spring forth from intensive studies of mathematics and hard science, and can be traced through his work’s evolution from illustrations, to wooden frames, and, ultimately, his famous steel sculptures. Throughout his career, Venet has employed a variety of genres including painting, photography, sound and performance to explore materials and form, and existential questions of perception, time, and spatiality.

Bernar Venet was born in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, France, in 1941. Venet’s work has been exhibited extensively throughout Europe, the United States, South America and Asia in solo museum shows, as well as in major art events such as the Kassel Documenta in 1977, and the Biennales of Paris, Venice and Sao Paulo. Numerous monumental sculptures are permanently installed around the world, in cities such as Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Strasbourg, Beijing, Nice, Austin, San Francisco, Bergen, Geneva and Cologne. Venet has been the recipient of many awards including a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Grand Prix des Arts de la Ville de Paris, and Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur, France's highest decoration. After many years in New York, he now lives and works in Le Muy in Southern France.

Frank Stella

Frank Stella has been pushing boundaries for decades, constantly seeking out new means of art-making — and succeeding time and again. Stella’s occupation with formalist concerns has led to intensive and rich explorations of line, color, texture and the potential of the pictorial surface to reach beyond the flat canvas to the realm of volume, space and light. Exploring how to force illusionistic space out of painting, Stella created the seminal Black Paintings, credited by some as reinventing Modernism and establishing the basis for Minimalism. Loosening the boundaries of the pictorial surface by introducing relief into his art, Stella eventually moved into three-dimensional sculpture and architecture. Stella’s collaboration with master printer Ken Tyler led to the breakthrough technique referred to today as offset lithography. Stella is recognized as being as important to the art of fine printmaking as to painting. His main concern in the recent year though was sculpture.

Born in Malden, Massachusetts, 1936, Stella studied art history and painting at the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, and later graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. degree in history. The only living artist to be honored with two retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art, Stella’s work can be found in the collections of eminent museums throughout the world. Stella has lived and worked in New York for the past 40 years. Frank Stella has recently been exhibited in a major retrospective at the Whitney Museum, New York, NY, USA, in 2016.

Isca Greenfield-Sanders

A unique fusion of photography and painting, Isca Greenfield-Sanders’ work creates a rich dialogue between abstraction and figuration, mechanical reproduction and handcraft, and narration and formalist visuality. Appropriating images from anonymous family estates, Greenfield-Sanders fashions meditative narratives exploring themes of nostalgia, memory and collective ideals. Her use of digital media, combined with the traditional craft of oil painting, creates a set of paradoxes mirroring contemporary lives and longings in an increasingly mechanized world.

Born in 1978, New York, NY, Greenfield-Sanders received BA degrees from Brown University in Visual Arts and Mathematics. In 2001, she was the Visiting Artist at the American Academy of Rome and has since received numerous solo exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States. In October 2010 her fist solo museum show opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. Her work can be found in the public and corporate collections including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen, Germany, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Texas, and The Estee Lauder Corporation, New York, NY. Isca Greenfield-Sanders lives and works in New York, NY.

Jan Fabre

Jan Fabre, born in Antwerpen 1958, occupies different media and multifaceted practices as an artist; theatre director, film maker, choreographer, author and visual artist.

Jan Fabre has continuously been working with beetle wings and one of his most remarkable oeuvres is the “Heaven of Delight” for the Royal Palace of Belgium in Brussels, 2002. Commissioned by the Queen Paula of Belgium, Fabre created a monumental ceiling painting in the Colonial Hall, an artwork consisting of 1,6 million beetles created by the assistance of 25 co-workers working full-time for several months.

Another of Fabre’s most comprehensive works is the series The Years of the Hour Blue, drawn with blue ballpoint bic-pen made during a period of 15 years.

Jan Fabre has exhibited at numerous galleries around the world, at the Louvre, Paris, MAXXI Museum, Rome, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna and at the Venice Biennial. Fabre has created gigantic sculptures in marble, bronze, sculptured portraits of himself, made numerous public works, and his own theatre company Troubleyn continuously tours his performances.

Mike + Doug Starn

Since the 1980s, Mike and Doug Starn’s conceptual approach to photography, and use of unorthodox techniques, has broadened notions of what is accepted as a photograph. In a signature manipulation of materials and form, the twin brothers apply innovative printing techniques, and a vast array of materials including transparency film, plexiglass, layered fused glass panels, gilded colored carbon prints, scotch tape, wax and pushpins, to create, and intensify, their metaphorical landscapes. With the theme of light as a central component of their work, the brothers explore the physical and philosophical interconnections between subjects such as leaves, trees, snowflakes, and religious icons, with human memory, perception and thought. Working collaboratively in photography since the age of thirteen, their innovative techniques, and unique combination of sculpture, painting, and video, have defied categorization, and earned them a position of eminence within the history of art.

Born in New Jersey, 1961, Mike and Doug Starn attended The School of The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Their work has been widely exhibited throughout the world, and represented in the collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, High Museum of Art, Atlanta, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among many others. They live and work in Brooklyn, New York.

Nathalia Edenmont

Probing and provocative, the work of Natalia Edenmont explores popular culture through the medium of photography. Through the juxtaposition of opposing subjects and aesthetics, Edenmont’s work is rife with a characteristic tension as she explores themes including the deceptive nature of cultural norms, conformity, the repression of the individual, and double standards in western society.

With a strong embrace of symbolism, and clear references to historical genres of art, Edenmont’s artful, and frequently beautiful, arrangements can be viewed as a modern expression of traditional iconography.

Born in Yalta, Crimea, 1970, Nathalia Edenmont received her art education at Yalta Art School for Children, Yalta, Crimea, State Art School of Kiev, Kiev, Soviet Union, Simferopol State Art School, Simferopol, Crimea, and Forsberg’s International School of Design, Stockholm, Sweden.
Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and the United States, and has been featured in publications including Bon Magazine, Sweden, Plaza Magzine, Sweden, Konstvärlden, Sweden and Photo International, Germany. In February 2014, Swedish public television released an one hour documentary about Edenmont and her work. Edenmont has resided in Sweden since 1991.
