Jason Martin
Informed by intensive study of Japanese calligraphy, and an interest in North American Minimalism and the natural world, Jason Martin negotiates the boundaries between abstraction and figuration, and between drawing, painting and sculpture. Of central focus to his oeuvre are his monochrome works where — using layers of oil or acrylic gel on hard reflective stainless steel, aluminum or Perspex — he combs the paint across the surface in continuous rhythmic movements. The floating, ethereal forms that result, reveal visible traces of the artist’s movement and momentum, and bring to mind the combined advances of action painting, minimalism, and expressionism.
Jason Martin studied at the Chelsea School of Arts and Goldsmiths College in London. Born in the Channel Islands, UK, in 1970 he now lives and works in Middlesex.
