About

Wetterling Gallery is proud to present a new exhibition with the Dutch artist Marjolein Rothman. GAZE is her second solo exhibition in Stockholm and includes new paintings, but also paper-cuts and photographs by which she broadens her technology.

As in her earlier work, Marjolein Rothman examines how the gaze constitutes reality. This time, she no longer turns her attention to iconic images and historical figures, but more towards the art world and the modernist tradition. She moves between the abstract and the imaginary, throws herself between detail and wholeness, tradition and innovation. She explores, in form and content, her position as a young artist in an art world where everything has already been done and standards have been set, but where there is still so much left to tell.
