A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that the site can recognise the browser again later. Some are needed for the site to work at all; the rest are a choice, and Swedish law — chapter 9, section 28 of the Electronic Communications Act (2022:482) — says we must ask before setting them.
Changing your mind
Select Manage cookies in the footer of any page. The panel lists the four categories below with a checkbox each; clear a box and save, and the corresponding cookies stop.
Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage under cookie_preferences, not in a cookie, and it lapses after 365 days, at which point we will ask again. Because it is stored in the browser, the choice applies to that browser on that device: change browsers and you will be asked afresh. Clearing your browsing data clears the record of your choice along with everything else.
The four categories
Strictly necessary. Session handling, security, load balancing, and the record of your cookie choice itself. Without these the site does not work, so they cannot be switched off and we do not ask permission for them.
Preferences and functionality. Remembers choices you make about how the site should behave, so it comes back the way you left it. Refuse these and the site works, but forgets.
Statistics. Google Analytics, which tells us in aggregate which pages and exhibitions people actually read. Nothing here is used to identify you or to contact you. Refuse it and nothing about the site changes for you; we simply learn less.
Marketing. Would allow us to recognise visitors in order to target advertising. We do not use it. The category appears in the panel because our website platform offers it as standard, and it is left switched off — this site sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If that ever changes, this page will change first.
What is actually set
| Name | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
cookie_preferences |
Strictly necessary | Records which categories you allowed. Stored in local storage rather than as a cookie | 365 days |
| Artlogic session cookies | Strictly necessary | Keep a browsing session coherent from one page to the next | Session |
_ga |
Statistics | Google Analytics — distinguishes one browser from another | 2 years |
_ga_SY0NK1MXFD |
Statistics | Google Analytics — maintains the session state for this site's property | 2 years |
_GRECAPTCHA |
Strictly necessary | Set by Google reCAPTCHA when a form is submitted, to tell people from scripts. Only set on pages carrying a form | 6 months |
Our website platform, Artlogic, and its logging provider, Datadog, also record technical information about page requests and errors. That is server-side logging rather than a cookie, and it is covered in the Privacy Policy.
Our editions shop at shop.wetterlinggallery.com runs on Shopify and sets its own cookies on its own domain — mostly cart and checkout cookies, which have nothing to do with this site. They are listed in the shop's privacy notice.
Blocking cookies in your browser
Every current browser lets you block or delete cookies from its settings, usually under Privacy. That works across every site you visit, not just this one, and blocking strictly necessary cookies will break parts of this site and many others. Browser controls sit outside our panel, so blocking cookies there will not update the choice recorded here.
More
How we use the information these cookies produce, who receives it, and what you can ask us to do about it are set out in our Privacy Policy. Questions to info@wetterlinggallery.com.
