Bea Marklund´s paintings are trying to invite the viewer into a shared space. Her visual language oscillates freely between the personal, and art historical references. Investigating questions about color and form, line and movement, and tapping into the spontaneous gesture of Abstract Expressionism. Her work subtly evoke architectural structures, cryptic signs and symbols in ingenious lines. Each painting is capturing her movement with volatile spray paint juxtaposed with the laborious built up surface. Her directed way of painting causes these abstract images to attain a haptic quality, oscillating between the impression of spatiality and planarity, three-dimensionality and two-dimensionality. She is interested in the tension between control vs. no control, the importance of not knowing, while emphasizing clarity through simplification, in the search of something more universal.
