Jason Martin: [WG.Project 24]
Wetterling Gallery is pleased to announce the first exhibition in our project room of 2021. It's solo exhibition with new works by the artist Jason Martin. Opening Day will take place February 25, 2021 from 3 - 7 pm.
“The most interesting abstraction has a source of figuration. My approach is that there is a warmth of figuration that I try to affect into the movements—gestures—that I make”
- Jason Martin
Jason Martin makes sensual, sometimes three-dimensional paintings—compositions of thickly impastoed modeling paste painted in a single or several similair, rich colors. He layers oil paint or acrylic gel atop a metal or Plexiglas substrate, and then drags a comb-like tool through the substance to create voluminous striations. Martin has his obvious focus on the process and the intensely expressive gesture that runs throughout his works. As his works are rich in details, they are best enjoyed live when one can move around the objects.
