Peter Johansson characterizes his artistic career as a thirty-year voyage of investigating Swedish culture. Through sculpture and installation, he has carefully dissected Swedish phenomena, such as wooden painted horses from Dalarna, Falukorv (a traditional sausage from Falu), folk dancing, or red timber cottages, amongst many others. Growing up in Dalarna (a county in central Sweden) in the 60s and 70s, his practice addresses the experiences of his early life, often portrayed with a tragicomic tone. In recent years Peter Johansson has increasingly directed his operations towards similar phenomena in other countries and other cultures, and he has also addressed dark secrets within his own family. Peter Johansson aims to reach as many people as possible through his physical approach, his direct address and his visual clarity.
